The Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) was founded in the fall of 2005. The school was established as a State Level Project through the Chinese Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education, the Government of Canada, and the New Brunswick, Canada, Department of Education.

CISB currently has students from over 50 countries and this number is growing as our enrollment increases.[1]

CISB operates under the strict guidance and oversight of the New Brunswick, Canada, Department of Education. The founding organization of CISB has a long and successful history of operating schools in China with three other schools in China,[2] including an International School in Shenzhen, and two schools delivering the Canadian Curriculum to Chinese Nationals in both Beijing and Shenzhen.

CISB offers a world-class facility with an internationally recognized Canadian Education Curriculum. The grade levels at CISB range from Montessori Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The Canadian International School of Beijing is an IB World School[3] and offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at the high school level.

CISB Mission & Core Beliefs

Mission

The Canadian International School of Beijing develops the whole child in an environmentally sensitive school within a kind, caring community to become a citizen of the world.[4]

Core Beliefs

We believe in:

Curriculum

CISB offers a Montessori Kindergarten from 18 months to 6 years old and an internationally recognized Canadian curriculum through an agreement with the New Brunswick, Canada, Department of Education.[5]

The curriculum is recognized universally for its quality, breadth, and depth. It is an outcomes-based system that ensures all students attain the required knowledge, skills, and attitudes before graduation. In the early years, the curriculum provides an emphasis on the basic skills, knowledge, and attitudes students will need for later success. As the students progress into Middle School, the subject areas broaden to provide them with experiences in specific curriculum areas and to introduce new interests. In High School, the program begins to become more focused as we prepare students to meet the requirements for university entrance.[6]

All courses are taught by teachers with university credentials and with teaching certificates recognized by Canadian authorities. All have prior teaching experience. The teachers must maintain the same high standards that are required of teachers in Canadian schools by Canadian Ministries of Education. The educational programs and teaching methodologies are supported and regularly reviewed by education experts from Canada.

In addition, CISB is an IB World School[3] offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) to high school students.

Accreditation

All certificates and diplomas issued for student achievement are recognized by the New Brunswick, Canada, Department of Education.

The school is affiliated with UNESCO and ACAMIS.[7] Applications have been made to become affiliated with the Council of International Schools, the National Center for School Curriculum and Textbook Development, and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The Canadian International School of Beijing has recently become a Candidate School for all three organizations. CISB is also a member of the Canadian Education Association.

Technology

All CISB classrooms are equipped with the Smart Board system - an interactive white board. Lesson plans are uploaded daily on the website for the convenience of students and parents.

A One-on-One computer program has been implemented for Grade 6 to 12 students. Wireless access is available throughout the school premises.
